Allaah made it obligatory upon all the servants to reject and disbelieve in at-taaghoot, and to believe in Allaah. Ibnul Qayyim (May Allaah have mercy upon him) said:

“At-taaghoot is anyone whom the servants go beyond the due bounds, whether it is someone worshipped, obeyed or followed.”

The taaghoot are many, and their heads are five:

1. Iblees (Satan), may Allaah’s curse be upon him.

2. Whoever is worshipped and is pleased with that.
3. Whoever calls the people to worship them.
4. Whoever claims to possess anything from the knowledge of the affairs of the hidden and unseen.
5. Whoever judges by other than what Allaah sent down.

The proof is the saying of Allaah, the Most High:
“No one is to be compelled to enter the religion; true guidance has been made clear and distinct from falsehood. So whoever rejects at-taaghoot and truly believes and worships Allaah alone, then has grasped the firmest handhold that will never break.”

This is the meaning of ‘laa ilaha illa Allaah’.

This is pointing to the fact that it is obligatory to worship Allaah alone and sincerely without any partners, because the first thing that Allaah commanded the servants with was to believe in Allaah and disbelieve in at-taaghoot. Moreover, they are many but their heads are five.

It means their leaders and those who a blindly followed by them.

1. Iblees; he is the outcast and accursed Satan to whom Allaah said: “My curse is upon you till the day of resurrection.” [Saad 38:78]
Iblees was with the angels, in their company and performing their actions. Then when he was commanded to prostrate to Aadam, the foulness, disdain and haughty pride within him was manifested and he refused to prostrate, became haughty and became from the disbelievers. So he was cast out from the Mercy of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic.

2. Whoever is worshipped and pleased with that; he is the one who is worshipped besides Allaah and is pleased that he is being worshipped besides Allaah; he is one of the heads of the taaghoots and Allaah’s refuge is sought from that and it is the same whether he is worshipped in his lifetime or after his death, if he dies whilst having been pleased with that.

3. Whoever calls people to the worship of himself; it is anyone who calls the people to worship him, even if they do not do so. He’s one of the heads of the taaghoots whether the people responded to his call or not. (more…)

Question posed to Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jaabiree

[Q]: Is it permissible for a woman to disobey her parents if they command her not to wear the ‘abaaya?

[A]: It seems to be apparent that you, O my daughter, are from the khalaeej (the Gulf States) if in fact you are not from Saudi Arabia. It is obligatory upon the Muslim woman to wear thejilbaab. The jilbaab is an outer covering that conceals the beauty of a woman and her clothing; it covers her body from head to toe. This means that it covers the entire body.

As for the ‘abaaya that is most popular in the Gulf States, then it has taken the place of thejilbaab.

I say that if in your area the jilbaab is predominately worn by the people, then do not wear the ‘abaaya. However, if in your area or country the people predominately wear the ‘abaayathen do not obey your parents (i.e. wear the jilbaab not the ‘abayaa) as there is no obedience to the creation when it involves disobedience to the creator.

At this point I would like to clarify that the ‘abaaya of the woman is be worn upon the head, and for her to wear it upon the shoulders is an error, even if some of the people of knowledge have given verdicts that the ‘abaaya can be worn on the shoulders.

Verily, those who have given the verdict (stating) that a woman can wear the ‘abayaa on the shoulders have only done so because they were unaware that the ‘abayaa has taken the place of the jilbaab; and the jilbaab is worn from the head.

Question:

This (female) questioner from France says that she has just professed Islaam and always hears of (the term) “Al-Wahabiyyah”, so she desires clarification from the Shaykh regarding this issue, may Allaah protect him.

Answer:

I ask Allaah, O my daughter, that He establish you on Islaam and the Sunnah. O Allaah, establish her! [The Shaykh made this supplication three times]
(The term) “Al-Wahabiyyah” is attributed to Ash-Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul Wahhaab (رحمه الله) because he was the one who revived the call of Tawheed in the middle part of the twelfth century of the hijrah. He was aided upon this revival by the Ameer, the Imaam, Muhammad ibn Saud, may Allaah have mercy upon them both.

This ascription (Al-Wahabiyyah) is used by the enemies; the enemies of Tawheed, the enemies of the Sunnah. So it has become, that every enemy of Tawheed and the Sunnah ascribes the person of Tawheed and the Sunnah with being “Wahabee”. This is the explanation of the word “Al-Wahabiyyah”.

And perhaps you should know that it is an evil ascription both blameworthy and faulty, because Ash-Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul Wahhaab (رحمه الله) did not ascribe himself with this. Likewise, this ascription was never attributed to him by the Scholars of the da’wah after him, nor from amongst his sons, grandchildren and brothers of the da’wah up until the present time.

It is not known from anyone from amongst them attributing him with this ascription except the people of superstitions, innovations, and Shirk. They are the ones who ascribe the people of the Sunnah with this ascription.
